Our licensing philosophy

Licensing is at the forefront of Accentus’ commercial strategy. Being an innovative enabling technology company we see astute licensing as the optimum means of commercialising our technologies to the widest possible customer base.

We treat each licensing partner as an individual, maintaining flexibility to create bespoke arrangements at all times.

Equally important is our recognition that although Accentus may consider some of our technologies as fully developed, when applying them to a new customer application, there is no guarantee of success without actually first proving concept and ultimately commercialising the technology.

We believe that a firm and mutual understanding of risk and related reward is a necessary prerequisite to success, as is the agreement of the status of our technology to a customer’s target.

Our normal and preferred modus operandi in the initial stages of forging a relationship for a bespoke application is one of collaborative R&D. Post agreeing an NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement) which has a specific field to fully define the scope of the discussions, our customers fund a limited amount of initial rapid screening work to assess Proof of Concept (i.e. can it be done). Should we show success, the stepwise, methodical approach from Proof of Principle (Process Identification: can it be done on labscale?) through Proof of Process (can it be repeatably done on lab scale/process characterisation) through Pilot Trials, ultimately leading to technology transfer licensing and supply.

This stepwise approach helps focus mutual interests and most importantly limits risk and can maximise return on investment.
