Benefits of plasma based technologies

The benefits of plasma systems are their simplicity and flexibility in treating a wide range of different pollutants, often simultaneously. They are economic to use, provide instantaneous response to the application of power, do not require high temperatures and often avoid the requirements for use, storage and handling of additional chemicals. Specifically;

  • Destroys pollutants at low gas temperatures
    - Exhaust gas temperatures for many applications / operating conditions are not sufficient for thermal or catalytic regeneration.
    - Avoids the need to artificially raise the exhaust gas by means of additives or heaters which can be costly and inefficient
  • Operates instantaneously with the application of power
    - does not need to wait for exhaust gas temperature to rise
    - gives enhanced flexibility and economy through electronic control of the plasma for optimum performance to best suit each particular operating condition.
  • Simultaneous removal of different pollutants
    - Simultaneous treatment of NOx, SOx, VOCs, PFCs, hydrocarbons, dioxins and furans and tolerant to particulates.
  • Does not require additives or low sulphur fuel
    - avoids costly chemical additive systems and associated ash production that may be required on comparable catalytic systems.
    - Can operate in markets where low sulphur fuel is not available.
  • Ease of installation and operation
    - Can often be fitted to an existing application without major modification.
    - Also suitable for retrofit application.
  • Scaleable technology for different applications
