Safety
- It is a low temperature operation, up to
90°C.
- Operates at low pressure - nominally at atmospheric
pressure.
- Organic feed rate is matched to the destruction
rate to ensure that the inventory of hazardous
material in the process is kept to a minimum
- It is easily controllable through the applied
current· It is fail safe by switching
off power supply to the electrochemical cell.
- Ease of decontamination - on completion of
a campaign the plant is easy to decontaminate
internally.
- All gaseous, liquid and solid effluents can
be held within the plant and analysed before
release. The process can therefore be considered
"closed loop".
Environmental
- High recyclability of process chemicals.
- Low waste stream volumes (gaseous, liquid
and solid)
- No production of dioxins, polyaromatic hydrocarbons
or dibenzofurans.
- All waste streams (gaseous, liquid and solid)
will readily meet the requirements of the relevant
environmental legislation.
- Liquid effluent streams consist only of dilute
nitric acid (<1% by weight); neutral mixed
salt solutions or sodium hydroxide/sodium chloride
solutions. · These effluent streams can
therefore easily be dealt with either on or
off site.
